After an intensive conference (here is the link to the conference), we will draw conclusions in a public panel discussion at the Marcacci Palace on Friday, October 10 at 2:30 pm.
Under the title "What Remains of Locarno?" we will discuss with three experts the legacy of the historic 1925 agreements and their relevance to international politics today.
We will take up the significance for the history of international law and peace-making, but we will also analyze whether lessons can really be learned from Locarno for modern-day politics and diplomacy. The question of force and the crisis of multilateral agreements in times of a new rising authoritarianism completes the discussion.
Participants in the discussion are:
Jörg De Bernardi, head of policy planning at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs
Vanessa Conze
Dirk Schumann
Moderation: Joana Duyster Borredà / Bernd Braun
The language of the panel discussion is German, but it will be possible to ask questions in Italian and English.
We look forward to welcoming you and to a stimulating discussion, one hundred years later and right in Locarno.
